Preschool Program ( 3-4 yrs)

3 Years

Our 3 year old preschool program runs from 9:00 am until 11:45am or extended 9:00am-1:00pm, two days a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Following the Reggio Emilia approach, our topics of study are chosen by the children, based on their interests. Observation by the teachers is crucial in learning what the children are interested in through their play and discussions. The teachers work together as a team to support their learning by bringing in a variety of materials and resources that the children can explore and learn from. The topics will continue for as long as the children are interested. We encourage community involvement by providing out of classroom experiences for the children and utilizing members of our community as resources to help further expand on our topic of study. Our program also emphasizes the importance of free play, allowing the children the opportunity to explore different centres in depth. Everyday there is a large variety of open ended art supplies and materials available to the children to explore and create with, and we encourage the children to express themselves through music and movement and pretend play. In our 3 year old preschool program we encourage the children to socialize and get to know their peers through name games, turn taking activities, and teaching problem solving skills.

4 Years

Our 4 year old preschool runs from 9:00am until 11:45am or extended 9:00am-1:00pm, three days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Following the Reggio Emilia approach, our topics of study are chosen by the children based on their interests. We will continue to study a topic in depth until the children are no longer interested in the topic. Observation is a key component to our preschool program, as the teachers learn the children’s interests by observing their play and discussions. We encourage community involvement by providing out of classroom experiences for the children and utilizing members of our community as resources to help us further expand on our topic of study. Our preschool program also emphasizes the importance of free play. We believe that through play children learn necessary skills to actively participate in the world around them. Play provides children with the opportunity to engage in meaningful peer interactions and improve social skills, language skills, and motor skills. Everyday there is a large variety of open ended art supplies and materials available to the children to explore and create with, and we encourage the children to express themselves through music and movement and pretend play. In this program, we foster a sense of compassion, ownership and respect for both ourselves and our peers.

Gradual Entry for Preschool Programs:

The first days in a new preschool are extremely important to children’s feelings of security and acceptance, whether they have has previous social experiences or not.

When separation is handled well it will help both you and your child to adjust to this new environment and experience. We advocate a gradual entry process for all children at the preschool to make this an easy and positive transition for all concerned.

At the time of registration you will receive an information package outlining the gradual entry schedule.
